Tomorrow’s Leaders Are Finding Their Voices Today

At the afterschool One World Academy, students from 14 DC schools have been diving deep into real-world issues and proposing solutions to problems that impact everyone, including e-scooter safety, the impact of sexual assault, and rising medical costs.
“I enjoy coming to One World because it helps me express my ideas and views on the world, and it makes me feel heard and recognized.” — 7th grader at Ingenuity Prep
These middle schoolers have spent weeks learning how to discern opinion from fact, how to disagree and share feedback in a constructive way, and how to wade through an overload of information to pick the most compelling evidence that will sway their audience.
These skills aren’t just invaluable for their English classes, their college essays, and their work presentations. These are the skills that will help them become considerate neighbors, engaged citizens, and community leaders.
This Election Day, we are particularly aware that our society’s future mayors, governors, and senators are being shaped right now. And we are pleased to report—One World students fill us with hope.

Write One World’s Future. Contribute Today.

For 20 years, One World Education has helped DC students find their voices and build skills that last a lifetime. With your support, we can build on that legacy for the next generation.
Today, our downtown One World Academy operates just two days per week in rented space. A dedicated, long-term home would allow us to serve more students five days a week, offer office hours for students and families, and create a welcoming community space for learning and connection.
Imagine a place where students can stop by for feedback on an essay, families can connect with our staff, and young people can gather to explore ideas, practice their presentations, or simply feel at home.
Through the Writing Home Project, we’re raising $250,000 by June 30, 2027 to make that vision possible. Your gift will help create the space—and the opportunities—that our next generation of leaders deserves.
