When was the first time you were stressed? How old were you? Were you in elementary school, middle school, high school, or college? The definition of stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. I sometimes get stressed, and I know most people do, too. Many middle students are stressed due to the homework in their classes and the changes in the work that is given to them. To solve this, middle school students should take breaks and do activities they like, such as hobbies and extracurricular activities. Schools should help students when needed, and parents should help their children by giving them time to debrief and relax when stressed. Parents should give time for their children to unwind and rest, help them with their work, and give them everything they need. Schools should change the amount of homework and school work that is given in each class to reduce their stress.

Many middle school students are stressed due to the class homework and the change in the work given. According to “Middle Web,” this stress impacts our mood and can make it difficult to sleep because we are worried. Homework is also often the main reason that students are not getting enough sleep and then have a more difficult time focusing the next day in class and finding the energy to do well in extracurricular activities like sports practice. Another piece of evidence is, according to “Stanford Research Shows Pitfalls Of Homework,” “many students said their homework load led to sleep deprivation and other health problems. The researchers asked students whether they experienced health issues such as headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss and stomach problems.” The article also says, “56 percent of the students considered homework a primary source of stress, according to the survey data. Forty-three percent viewed tests as a primary stressor, while 33 percent put the pressure to get good grades in that category.” This shows that homework can cause extra work that can bring stress on students in middle school in a way that affects their health and pressures them to be their best. This makes it difficult to do the work. Not only stress but other health problems.

Students in middle school are given homework that stresses them out, and they struggle with the difference in the work level. Middle school students should take breaks and do activities they like, such as hobbies and extracurricular activities. According to “7 Ways to Help your Middle- or High-Schooler Manage Stress,” extracurricular activities and hobbies can add structure to time off and relieve stress. Additionally, the article “Is Online Schooling a Solution To Stress In School” states, “Teaching students about stress management tips like deep breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, and increasing physical activity can also help them feel less stressed.” This shows that doing what you like and having breaks can take off some of the stress. If many students use this way to take breaks and do what they like, they can reduce stress and do the work at the same time.

In conclusion, many students who are in middle school experience stress from school. A solution is for them to do what is needed to reduce their stress, like taking deep breaths. Also, many people experience stress in middle school due to work and homework. As a middle school student myself, I have homework almost every day, and that takes a lot of time. I hope that schools should change the amount of work that is given to us so that it reduces our stress.
