Tenth grader Luisa Orellana-Castillo from Banneker High School delivered one of this year’s most powerful presentations with a focus on bread-and-butter issues – literally. After cuts to federal food subsidies in March of 2023, she told us she never misses a chance to eat at school anymore. She doesn’t know how much food there will be at home. She realized during her research that millions of families were facing the same kinds of hardships as her family was and that their issues could be addressed with a change in government policy. Luisa was one of 12 One World Challenge winners this year!
