Have you ever stayed on social media for too long and kept scrolling? Students in the United States face the same problem. Many are being negatively impacted by social media, and we, as students, should try to limit our use of it. Many studies show that social media is connected to negative emotions. A study by Kiera E. Reims and colleagues published in JAMA Psychiatry found that teenagers who use social media for more than three hours a day are at a high risk for their mental health being negatively impacted. This topic is important because it affects the lives of many students in the United States in different ways.

As noted, many students in the United States are being negatively impacted by social media. An article written by Capital University states that many teenagers spend almost five hours a day on social media each day. That’s a lot of time! Researchers believe that some of the things we do are because of the influence of social media like YouTube or TikTok. Even though social media and smartphones have had some good impact on the world, they can cause problems such as sleep deprivation and decreased productivity.

Keeping track of our time on social media can help us avoid its negative impacts. According to the American Psychiatric Association, over half of all college students have spent less time on social media on purpose. This is a very good thing. One way to cut back on social media is by tracking how much time you spend on it. Another way to cut back is to take a break for a period of time. People who spend less time on social media are less affected by its negative effects.

In conclusion, many students in the United States are being negatively impacted by social media, and we should try to limit our time on it, such as tracking our time there and taking breaks. I hope that we can try to be more positive in the way we are using social media.
