2017 College & Career Senior Challenge

We believe students should write to be heard.

At the conclusion of the in-class portion of the One World Cornerstone, teachers nominate up to five seniors per school, who meet all of the requirements listed below. These nominees will have the opportunity compete for a total of $15,000 in scholarships at the College & Career Senior Challenge, happening April 12th at the historic Howard Theatre.

Jump to the Senior Challenge Academy Calendar.

Selected nominees will join students from across Washington, DC, and together they will hone skills developed in the classroom through six weeks of intensive workshops in the Senior Challenge Academy led by Teacher Leaders who will provide instruction and mentorship. Students transform their writing into dynamic oral presentations and display boards, in preparation for the culminating community event where students present their research to a panel of judges.

This opportunity provides students with invaluable experience to express their ideas, to clearly argue what they care about, and to develop the confidence that they need for success in college and competition in the global job market.

Nomination Requirements:

  1. Successful completion of the One World Journal and essay.

  2. Well-crafted argument that states a problem about a college or career issue and argues for a solution.

  3. Interest in working with coaches and mentors to transform their argument into a dynamic oral presentation and visual display board for hundreds of people.

  4. Available to attend the Senior Challenge Academy at the Shaw Library from 5-7pm on Wednesdays from March 1-April 5, 2017.

  5. Self-driven students who will strive to improve their work and represent their school in competition for scholarships by completing each benchmark in the Senior Challenge Academy.

Please complete this student nomination and submit their essay to One World Education by 2/22/2017.
