OWEd Ambassador teaches class with his OWEd Reflection at Roosevelt High School

At the beginning of June, the OWEd Team was invited to Roosevelt High School to see one an Ambassador's One World Reflection in action. Our May 2010 Student Ambassador, Malcolm Berry, an 11th grader at Roosevelt led the class in a reading, discussion and Learning Activity surrounding the
Reflection he wrote about HIV/AIDS among teens in DC. Students from three separate classes read his reflection and discussed the reading questions together in small groups. OWEd was able to see the level of increased engagement in peer-to-peer learning first hand: check out the

OWEd Meets Funding Goal in New York City
May 2010
In May, OWEd met another funding goal with our second annual fundraiser in New York City. To a room full of supporters in mid-town Manhattan, OWEd introduced the One World Schools Program and 2010 One World Student Ambassadors.

The 2010 Youth, Culture & Learning Celebration was a great success! On April 15th over 225 people celebrated the twelve students from public, charter and independent schools who joined the One World Student Ambassador community. Teachers, administrators, family members and other guests left informed and excited about the work of One World Education, and our impact and goals for 2010. We are also proud to announce that CBS News attended the event and you can watch their story. Also in attendance was DC Council Member, Kwame Brown, who inspired our 2010 Student Ambassadors and recognized them as the youth leaders that they are.
Meet the 2010 One World Education Student Ambassadors
April 1, 2010
This school year marked a great expansion of the Culture & Global Issues Reflection Contest, where 325 Capital Region students submitted their writing. From these submissions, 12 students were chosen as OWEd Ambassadors. Starting in April 2010, each month, one of these new Student Ambassadors will have their Reflection published on our website with curriculum to serve as teaching tools for other students.

OWEd Presents at Just World Festival

On February 26, 2010,
One World Education participated in the Just World
Festival at Annandale High School along with US Congressman and
former presidential candidate Dennis J. Kucinich and Owner of
Busboys and Poets and Iraqi-American Peace Activist, Andy
Shallal. The event was organized by the Annandale
High School Just World and Interact Club and was open to students
from the Mid-Atlantic region. Around 500 student attended the event and
participated in the interactive exhibitions from organizations and
student clubs that were in attendance along with OWEd.
OWEd attends WIS International Education Symposium at the World Bank
February 2, 2010
On February 2, 2010 One World Education led workshops at the Center for International Education symposium hosted by the Washington International School at the World Bank. This year's theme, Digital Media: Jump Starting Education and Action on Critical and Global Issues, was ideal to inspire students to think about potential reflections to submit to the OWEd, Culture & Global Issues Reflection Contest. The symposium included a keynote address by filmmaker, Karin Muller who talked about the power of film to foster global citizenship an help citizens better understand many of the conflicts of the world. Students listened to speakers, presentations by their peers, and participated in hand-on workshops led by groups like One World Education. Students tackled themes ranging from the ongoing conflict in Sudan to ways to reduce their school's carbon footprint. With Eric Goldstein's guidance, students at the symposium discovered unique ways they can contribute to critical global and local issues. High school student intern, Yoni Kalin, also had the opportunity to represent One World Education and motivate his peers to become OWEd Student Ambassadors in 2010. The symposium was a great event to engage students in thinking critically about both global and local issues.
One World Education joins the DC ONE FUND Community!

In February One World Education joined the DC One Fund. For over 50 years, District government employees and DC one fund retirees have stepped up to support nonprofit organizations through the DC One Fund.
