Upcoming Opportunities for Student Ambassadors

OWEd is excited to announce that over the next few months we will engage in several service projects so our student ambassadors can give back to our community. Put these dates on your calendars!

  • January 12 and March 8  - Partner with the Rotary Club and Thrive DC to serve food to those in need at the St. Stephen's Community Center in Columbia Heights, followed by a pizza party for Rotary Club volunteers and OWEd student ambassadors and parents. Space is limited, so sign up soon! Send your name and preferred date of service to deanna@oneworldeducation.org
  • February 11 - All hands on deck (ambassadors, parents, and staff!) to participate in a Pancake Breakfast benefiting the Rotary Club to fund their upcoming local projects (including One World Education). Not only will you be supporting the great work of the Rotary Club and One World Education, it will be a great opportunity to meet and mingle with members of the community that are interested in volunteerism and humanitarian work. And YES, you can eat many, many pancakes! Get in touch with deanna@oneworleducation.org with specific questions. 

OWEd Presents in US Congress

On November 10th, OWEd Executive Director and Founder, Eric Goldstein, presented to a group of international education delegates on the importance of partnerships between schools and communities. The presentation focused on the services that both businesses and non-profit organizations provide schools to benefit students and teachers. 

OWEd Welcomes Newest Board Members

November 30, 2011

One World Education is thrilled to welcome our two newest board members. Malitta Nicholson Seamon is CEO of the Seamon Corporation, a company she founded and has built with a 21-year history of delivering effective information management solutions for national and global health, safety, and human service programs. Malitta is a native Washingtonian and was raised with the belief that honesty, hard work, and a commitment to doing positive work bring many rewards.

Seth Silber is a partner in Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati's Washington, DC office, where he focuses on antitrust counseling and litigation and privacy and data security issues. He previously served for six years at the Federal Trade Commission, where he investigated and litigated cases involving antitrust issues concerning health care industries. Additionally, Seth is part-owner and treasurer of the Potomac Nationals, the Class-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

OWEd Launches SchoolTube Page

November 16, 2011

In Au239gust, OWEd launched our SchoolTube page. Because Youtube is blocked in so many schools, our SchoolTube page will allow students to view videos from our Student Ambassadors who share writing techniques and strategies to improve writing.

One World Education (OWEd) is a non-profit leader in promoting youth literacy and developing peer-to-peer curriculum that empowers teachers and engages students.  OWEd utilizes student-authored writing about culture and global issues as teaching tools for other students.

2011 Youth, Culture & Learning Celebration

One World Education’s annual Youth, Culture & Learning Celebration was held on April 28, 2011 and was a huge success!  Nearly 200 people attended the event that celebrated the 2011 Student Ambassadors.  Including the 2011 student ambassadors and their families, former OWEd student ambassadors, members of DCPS, friends of OWEd and members of the public.  The program included speeches from former student ambassadors, readings from our 2011 student ambassadors, a keynote speech from DCPS’s Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Carey Wright, and a closing message from OWEd’s new Board Chair, Glenn Parrillo.

OWEd's New Board Chair: Glen Parrillo

In March of 2011, One World Education voted for Glen Parrillo to be the organization's new Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Glen's extensive background includes more than 19 years of senior financial management and operational experience in helping both emerging growth and established companies mitigate risk, enhance revenue, optimize sales and marketing effectiveness, implement cost reductions, and improve supply chain strategies. Additionally, Glen has served as an auditor in public accounting for 5 years where a majority of his clients were in the technology, software, oil and gas, and not-for-profit sectors.

One World Education Partners with Rotary Club International

135On January 11th OWEd's executive director, Eric Goldstein, presented the scope and impact of One World Education's programming to the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill. The Rotary Club of Capitol Hill is one of two Rotary International clubs in Washington, DC, and represents the highest ideals of the organization through its service-oriented programs both at home and abroad.

The Capitol Hill Club promotes projects that fight hunger and encourage literacy. Club Member Greg Roberts is the Vice Chair of the One World Education Board of Directors.
