One World Experience occurs when young people share reflections about what they have learned from exploring culture and global issues.   All One World Experiences respond to an Essential Question:

  • What have I learned about my own or another culture and how has this experience affected me?
  • What have I learned about a global issue and how has this experience affected me or other youth?
  • What have I learned about a local or regional issue and how has this experience affected me or other youth and how is this issue possibly related to youth in other places?

One World Exploration requires interaction with the people, places and customs of culture.  This may involve traveling or exploring issues in another country, close interaction with local or regional issues or people exploring your country or exploration of your own country’s cultures.  One World Exploration exposes youth to new ideas about themselves, others and our world.

One World Learning reveals the growth, observations, discovery and lessons from a One World Exploration.  This may take the form of an assumption a youth once made that has been proven incorrect or what once seemed simple and straightforward is now more intricate and mysterious.

One World Sharing is based on the belief that young people can be each other’s best teachers.  OWEd’s mission empowers students to thoughtfully reflect on their One World Exploration and Learning.  This sharing is done through a One World Experience submission at www.oneworldeducation.org.

One World Teaching occurs when educators utilize the One World Education Curriculum.  When educators connect our youth driven curriculum back to students, we believe students will gain increased global awareness, meaningful citizenship, literacy and personal and global understanding.

The One World Curriculum is free and available online at www.oneworldeducation.org.  Our curriculum consists of youth-written, primary sources known as the One World Reflection and standards-based, engaging and interdisciplinary Learning Activities and Unit Resources.  The One World Curriculum is designed for students in grades 7-12 and allows students to learn about culture and global issues from the perspective of other youth, promoting a stronger connection to what is taught.

One World Ambassadors are the youth who have been selected to publish their One World Reflections at www.oneworldeducation.org.  By providing a critical link between students and cultures of our world, One World Ambassadors serve and live the mission of One World Education. The One World Reflections of our Ambassadors are the core of the One World Curriculum.

Meaningful Citizenship refers to an individual’s sense of connectedness, responsibility and membership in a wider community—from the global to the local. One World Education promotes the practice of meaningful citizenship as young people count themselves as stakeholders and problem solvers in our world by exploring culture and global issues.

Cross-Cultural Experiences occur when interaction, birth of new knowledge and reflection are achieved from engaging in a culture other than one’s own.

Personal-Cultural Experiences occur when interaction, birth of new knowledge and reflection are achieved from engaging within one’s own culture.
