Community Program

Student Group Photo OWEd LearnShops are led by experienced middle and high school educators who are leaders in their schools and communities. LearnShops are designed for middle and high school aged students and the educators and administrators that serve them.  In all OWEd LearnShops, participants explore and engage in the learning process as they are introduced, practice and apply skills that increase the goals of the program.  Contact Eric at Eric@oneworldeducation.org for more information about scheduling a LearnShop for your school or program.

One World Education LearnShops:

Cross-Cultural Learning

Students, educators and program leaders are learning in new environments in our own communities and around the world.  These opportunities offer incredible learning experiences and often challenging transitions.  This LearnShop offers students, teachers and administrators an understanding of culture shock and cultural norms and skills to integrate and return (reverse culture shock) from different learning opportunities.

Reflective Writing & Journaling

It is said that the deepest learning is not the experience, but rather the reflection of that experience.  Student programs offer defining learning experiences but rarely incorporate literacy components that allow students to write about their learning.  This LearnShop teaches students how to reflectively write and record their experiences.  It also works with program leadership on how to effectively initiate daily writing prompts and group discussions.

Youth Leadership

To help students become our next generation of public leaders they need leadership skills beyond what are offered in school.  The LearnShop guides students to identify topics and issues they care about and leadership opportunities within those areas.  Students then practice different leadership strategies to become leaders in their schools and communities

Entrepreneurship and Social Action

Great ideas that are reshaping society and culture are originating from the minds of students.  This LearnShop helps students learn about the entrepreneurial process so their ideas can have a foundation to take root and form.  Before introducing a model for transitioning ideas into action, students explore the many angles of social change and practice traits common among successful change makers.

Goal Orientation

Learning and teaching in exchange and study abroad programs offer valuable experiences.  These programs are incredibly packed, and new environments require great attention.  This LearnShop works with educators, students and program leaders to develop goals that expand the professional and personal impact of their program.  The LearnShop helps participants identify resources they need and to anticipate obstacles before introducing strategies to accomplish personal and professional goals.

Career Development

Schools and youth-serving organizations provide learning opportunities that prepare our students for their endeavors beyond high school.  This LearnShop helps students frame and showcase their experiences and skills for their next steps.  The LearnShop focuses on resume development, job search strategies and interview skills to help students ensure they are reflecting their qualifications, goals and skills to obtain the most of future opportunities.
